The Design Process
The design process is a phased approach created to manage your project from conception to completion. It all starts by getting to know you, how you use your garden, your needs and your wishlist for your new outdoor space. This is all then translated into a seamless design. Throughout the process, I will keep in regular contact with you and update you on progress with meetings after each phase.
Once the designs are complete, I then work with trusted landscapers to price your new garden design accurately against the masterplan. And to make the build hassle free, I will be available to visit regularly during the build phase to ensure the construction is to specification.
The design process can be bespoke to your needs so whether you are looking for a full turn key design service, a concept design, or help putting together a planting design, I can tailor the process to meet your needs.
Phase 1 - Consultation
The process begins with an on-site consultation to get to know you, your garden and your aspirations for your outdoor space. This meeting can be 1-2 hours depending on the size of your garden. Following this, a written brief is sent to you which outlines the fee structure and a detailed summary of the goals for your space.
Phase 2 - Concept Design
A topographical survey will be carried out of your existing garden to determine accurate measurements, utility locations and levels. Using this information along with your design brief established, the concept design will be created. This drawing will be a proposed layout including photography as a mood board to reflect the proposal. At this stage, the design will focus more on the layout rather than the specific details.
Phase 3 - Detailed Design
Once the concept is approved, I will get to work completing the detailed masterplan of your garden. At this stage materials, specific details and planting pallets including the general style of planting will be proposed.
Phase 4 - Technical Design
At this phase I will create a detailed design pack including material specifications, construction details, irrigation and lighting plans. These documents will be vital at both the tender and construction stages to ensure the project is priced and built accurately.
Phase 5 - Planting Design
The planting plan is then created which shows the locations of all the proposed plants, along with a plant schedule listing exact names, sizes and quantities. These are used for costing, ordering and setting out plants. I include images within this design so you get a feel for the look that is being proposed.
Phase 6 - Tender Documents & Site Inspections
Upon the completion of the full design, the tender pack is put together and sent to contractors for pricing. I work with a number of trusted contractors and suppliers who can price your project for you, or you are welcome to use a contractor of your choice. Once construction is underway, I offer the option for regular site visits to monitor progress and ensure the project is being built to specification,
